Doyin Okupe, the former Director General of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, has decided to part ways with the Labour Party.

Okupe, convicted of money laundering in December 2023, revealed in his resignation letter shared on Monday, that ideological disparities post-2023 elections prompted his departure.

Quest Times notes that despite announcing his withdrawal from Peter Obi’s campaign after the conviction, Okupe expressed loyalty to the Labour Party’s flagbearer.

In his resignation statement, Okupe emphasized, “I have been a rightist and a Liberal Democrat all my entire life. It is therefore this ideological conflict that makes me seek an exit so that I may continue my political activities with liberalism, sincerity and freedom.”

Acknowledging the Labour Party’s support during the 2023 Presidential Elections, he thanked the party’s leadership for their cordiality and respect.

Okupe wished the party success in future endeavours, concluding with, “Long live the Labour Party. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
