MFM Basketball Team Wins The 2023 Nigerian Women’s Basketball League
The MFM Women’s Basketball team has secured victory in the 2023 Nigerian Women’s Basketball League, a tournament organized by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). After three days of intense competition at the National Stadium Sports Hall in Lagos, MFM clinched the title by defeating Nigeria Customs 64-60 in a group match within the four-team format.
MFM’s victory came after they emerged at the top of the table, having won all three of their group matches against Nigeria Customs, Bayelsa Whales, and Air Warriors. The champions received a prize of N1.75 million, a trophy, and a ticket to represent Nigeria at the 2024 FIBA Africa Club Championship.
Air Warriors, the defending champions, secured the second position and were awarded N750,000 along with medals. Nigeria Customs took third place, earning N500,000 for their commendable efforts. Bayelsa Blue Whales finished in fourth place.
In recognition of her outstanding performance, Regina Donanu of MFM was named the Most Valuable Player and also received the Highest 3-Point Shooter Award. Vivian Iwuji of Bayelsa Whales was awarded the Highest Rebounder.
This win now places MFM among an exclusive group of teams, which includes First Bank, Dolphins, First Deep Water, and Air Warriors, who have achieved success in the Elite Basketball League.
