Former Ekiti State governor and PDP chieftain, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed his view during an exclusive interview with Channels TV. He discussed the situation within the PDP and addressed a follow-up question about his earlier statement regarding Nigeria‘s presidential election in 2023.
Fayose revealed his belief that Nigeria would face more significant challenges if a northerner had won the 2023 presidential election. He reiterated his position that it is the turn of the southern region to produce the president and stated that he has no apologies for expressing this view.
He also alluded to the idea of rotational precedence, suggesting that there’s a moral and common-sense understanding that certain regions should take their turn in the presidency. Fayose mentioned an example involving northern and southern leaders, where the presidency alternated between the two regions. He clarified that his statement was not specifically about any individual, such as Asiwaju Tinubu or Peter Obi, but rather about the principle of rotational presidency between the north and the south in Nigeria. Ayodele Fayose emphasized his belief in the rotational presidency between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions and suggested that this principle should guide the selection of the next president in the 2023 election.
