I didn’t purchase N300m bullet proof SUV – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike has refuted claims of purchasing a N300 million Armoured Lexus LX600 SUV on assumption to office.

Wike made the rebuttal shortly after a visit to Metro Train Station, Abuja on Wednesday to inspect ongoing rehabilitation of Abuja Rail Mass Transport System.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some sections of the media had published a picture of an Armored Lexus SUV model LX 600, fitted with ‘FCT – 01’ plate.

LP will win Imo gov poll – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, has said that his party would win the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

Speaking in Owerri, the state capital, on Tuesday at the flag-off of the campaigns for the party in the state, Obi said that LP is known for performance and excellence.

Using Abia State, which his party controls, as an example of good governance, Obi said that the people of Abia State now have hope and are witnessing good governance because a “first-class brain” who knows what he is doing is now the governor of the state.

Obi said, “Abure is the national chairman of our party. We don’t have another chairman. LP will win Imo State. Athan Achonu is the only candidate of the party, and he is the best in Imo State. I am happy nobody has changed the process. I believe in the process.

Minister of budget, economic planning, Atiku Bagudu

Atiku Bagudu has just been appointed Minister of Economic Planning and Budget by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He’s been in politics for decades and has occupied different political positions.

Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was born on December 26, 1961 in Gwandu, Kebbi State. He studied Economics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He proceeded to the University of Jos to obtain a Master of Science in Economics. He’s also a graduate of International Affairs from Columbia University, New York, USA.

Before Bagudu fully joined politics, he was an associate of the former Head Of State, Sani Abacha. He was also a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the All Progressive Congress in 2014. While in PDP, he was elected to represent Kebbi Central Senatorial District. In 2015, he contested the governorship elections under APC and won.

He spent two terms as the Governor of Kebbi State, from 2015 to 2023. As governor, Bagudu improved the state’s revenue by investing in solid minerals in collaboration with the Federal Government. He also changed the paradigm of rice production in Kebbi and Nigeria as a whole in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). It was launched by the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. After the initiation of this programme, the scale of rice production in Kebbi state moved from a million tons per annum to over two million. Those who were not engaged in farming eventually joined.

FAAC: FG, States, LGs share N966.110bn July allocation

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), at its meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and the Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, in Abuja on Tuesday, shared a total sum of N966.110 billion to the three tiers of government as Federation Allocation for July 2023 out of total gross revenue of N1, 746.491 trillion.

From the stated amount inclusive of Gross Statutory Revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) and Exchange Difference, the Federal Government received N374.485 billion; the States received N310.670 billion, the Local Government Councils got N229.409 billion, while the Oil Producing States received N51.545 billion as Derivation, (13% of Mineral Revenue).

The Communique issued by the FAAC at the end of the meeting indicated that the Gross Revenue available from the Value Added Tax (VAT) for July 2023, was N298.789 billion, which was an increase from the N293.411billion distributed in the preceding month, increasing to N5.378 billion.
