Opposition presidential candidate Peter Obi has won Lagos state in Nigeria’s election, provisional results show.

Obi’s win is a major upset to ruling party candidate Bola Tinubu, who has won three states in his south-western stronghold.

The race for the presidency is a tight contest between Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

The successor to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is stepping down after two terms, may not be known for days.

  18. congrats to Peter Obi but the most important thing I worried about is the Western influence in Nigeria. I believe that Nigerian should prioritize Africa patriotism in Africa instead of worship someone who looks white as God.

I'm Nigerian and this is a reality check, if Obi wins the west(Yoruba ethnic groups) and East(Igbo ethnic groups) and losses the North(Hausa ethnic groups) He can't win, and it's not that the election was rigged it's just what it is. Let's face it Nigerians the North is larger than the east and west combined and let's hope that he wins the North also so that he becomes our president.

  41. What a caricature of democracy! Peter Obi won the election by a landslide. Yet, the government decided to ignore the people's votes to announce their own pre-written "results"! The government blocked the electoral body's website to ensure that the real votes could not be uploaded electronically from the polling stations as mandated by law.
    As a true patriot, Mr. Peter Obi has called for calm. Let us see if the Nigerian judiciary will overturn this great mockery of democracy.

  47. It's a political game,the allowed him to win Lagos so as to serve as a psychological cushion before the final results were mentioned. They made atiku to appear second to limit Ob's fight. Obi won.. the anticipated him going to court. PDP and Apc are same so a indoor deal can be made and since Obi apparently is 3rd he would finally accept tinubu as a winner. When tinubu is affected while on sit then the leadership would turn to the North via Shettima. This nonsense must stop. Obi must fight differently. Now or Never.
