The former LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed his concern over the brutal killings in Plateau state that happened recently.

Gunmen attacked several villages in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi LGAs of Plateau on Christmas eve, leaving more than 115 people dead.

On his official X account, Obi posted a thread where he said he was thinking of the “overstretched security agencies” and the survivors of the attacks.

“The post reads: “I visited the Regent of Oba Community in Anambra State to offer my sympathy for the terrible murder of people in a nightclub there; and also the senseless act of terror that took place on Christmas Day in Plateau State, where the number of dead is now over 100 and more than 300 wounded.”

“I was saddened by the acts of violence that happened in Zamfara and Katsina States, where farmers were slain and many others abducted.

“And the other violent incidents in many parts of the country, which may not be reported; I thought of our exhausted security personnel. The men and women of our military and security services are in my mind.

“They are the ones who often go unnoticed in our thoughts and prayers as leaders and citizens, but they are the ones who safeguard and preserve our freedom as a people.

“I am talking about those who risk their lives to protect and uphold the freedom of our beloved nation and the rights that come with our democracy. Let us remember them in our thoughts and prayers this season.

“Let them know that their efforts are valued by a thankful nation. Great nations are made by rulers, citizens, and the defenders of freedom.

“So, to all our distinguished heroes, please receive the prayers and thoughts of your fellow citizens and the gratitude of a thankful nation for your services and sacrifices. God bless you all for what you do for us all.”

Obi also conveyed his sympathy to all the families who have suffered losses due to these acts of violence, saying these are very difficult times for Nigeria.

“Some countries that are in open wars have not seen this level of insecurity, violence and loss of human lives. Let us keep praying for our nation that God will heal our land,” he concluded.
