Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has responded after being honored as the Political Icon of the Year 2023 by The Sun Awards. In a statement on his verified Facebook page, Obi said he normally hesitates to accept awards considering Nigeria’s challenges but views this recognition as unique for celebrating those making vital contributions towards the country’s progress.
Obi dedicated the award to impoverished Nigerians uncertain of their next meal. He expressed appreciation especially to Nigerian youth who believe in his mission and remain committed to the journey for a New Nigeria.
Despite 2023 election setbacks, Obi urged unity beyond tribes, religions and parties to break from bad governance and create the envisioned better society. He stated his political journey focuses on building a better Nigeria and that supporters’ dedication is not in vain.
Obi shared photos of receiving the award on his Facebook page. His remarks there have generated reactions from fans and followers, underscoring his continuous engagement with supporters on social media.
