Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), reaffirmed his dedication to fostering peace within the party, dismissing rumors of his departure.

Speaking in Gombe on Sunday during the inauguration of a borehole he donated to Tike Ram Market in Pantami, Gombe State, Obi emphasized his determination to address the current challenges facing the LP.

In an interview with journalists, Obi stressed that his priority was the unity and stability of the Labour Party. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to overcome its hurdles and move forward cohesively. “No, there is no such thing as leaving the Labour Party. I am for peace; I like peace. I believe we are one people,” he affirmed, underlining his commitment to resolving internal issues within the party.

Responding to speculations about a potential 2027 presidential bid alongside former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, Obi redirected the focus towards present challenges facing Nigeria. “Well, I’m more interested now in Nigeria’s success today than tomorrow,” he remarked. He urged a shift in attention from electoral pursuits to addressing the pressing needs of Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the nation’s current welfare.

Obi’s remarks underscore his dedication to promoting internal harmony within the Labour Party while advocating for a greater focus on addressing societal issues for the betterment of Nigeria.
