Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, is accused of being funded by the President Bola Tinubu-led government to repeatedly attack Peter Obi.
According to a statement by Dr. Haruna Goroh, a social media influencer, he claimed that the way Omokri is “obsessed with discrediting Obi and legitimizing” Tinubu’s government shows that “what he is doing now full-time job.”
Goroh’s statement was in response to a statement by the former presidential aide who offered Peter Obi and his followers $10,000 to “substantiate their now viral claim that @waecnigeria deleted a post showing that Peter Obi Anambra to number one in education brought.”
Omokri, a staunch critic of Obi, had said that “WAEC has not deleted any posts. Their post is still on their X handle. What happened is that WAEC posted a link to someone else’s YouTube video. The video wasn’t theirs. Please check me: WAEC does not have a YouTube video.
“The YouTube video itself was flagged by YouTube for fraud and removed. It has nothing to do with WAEC.”
Reacting to the former presidential aide’s statement, Goroh claimed that Omokri had already been offered a job by Tinubu, which was not made public.
He claimed that Omokri’s obsession “to discredit Obi” stems from his desire to please his paymasters.
“I am now convinced that Reno is being paid to go after Obi. I always thought he attacked Peter Obi to get noticed and get an appointment with Tinubu,” Goroh said.
“I think he has already been given the appointment, but they have not made it public because of the nature of the work he has to do.
“The way Reno is obsessed with discrediting Obi and legitimizing Agbado’s regime, I am sure that what he does is now his full-time job.
“The way Reno spends so much time digging things up to discredit Obi, he must do it as his full-time paid job,” he added.
Describing Tinubu as a political “guru,” Goroh said: “Tinubu is a guru when it comes to paying money to get what he wants. Reno is offering a cash reward to those who have proof that Peter will exonerate Obi of what he accuses him of.
“Where does Reno get the money from? The same Reno who once exposed all the lies surrounding Tinubu has forgotten all that because of what he gets from Tinubu.
“I am not Igbo, nor am I sponsored by Obi or the Labor Party to speak on their behalf. If my claims are not true, Reno should not say anything about Obi for a month and I will be convinced that he is not sponsored by Agbado Master.
Goroh further said that “Omokri continues to attack the Obients as if they are the ones behind Nigeria’s problems. Tinubu stole the elections and is ruling with a mandate not given by the people.
“The Obidients were not mobilized by Obi. It is the young people of Nigeria who are tired of these political thieves who have destroyed their country.
“They saw only one person who had the qualities needed to bring about that desperately wanted change, and that person was Obi. The obedients are not just from the Igbo extraction in the South East but come from all over Nigeria.
“What Reno is doing is what I call a deliberate diversionary tactic by this regime: diverting the attention of Nigerians from the evil of Tinubu’s regime.
“Nigerians are not fools; they see what happens. You cannot continue to oppress the people forever; One day they will push back.”
