Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information & Strategy has claimed that it is only the supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as ‘Obidient Movement’ who were happy about the depreciation of the country’s currency, Naira against the dollar.

Mr Onanuga said this while featuring on Seun Okinbaloye’s ‘Mic On’ podcast.

The presidential spokesman accused Peter Obi and his supporters of deliberately making efforts to paint the current government of Bola Tinubu as a failure despite spending less than one year in office.

He added that the persistent argument of Obi’s supporters that their candidate who came third was robbed of his mandate in the 2023 presidential election was illogical and held no substance.

He said, “Up till now, some people are still writing that Bola Tinubu stole the Presidency.  Some people are saying the man who came third actually won the election.

“And they are not apologetic about that. How could someone who came third, how could he have won the election? Sometimes some of these things they say, you cannot even understand the basis of it.

“The man who came third in the race, you are still saying up till now, he won the election. You are still saying Bola Tinubu stole the presidency, how did he steal it? You can even see when people are talking about the Naira, some people are just happy that the Naira was going downhill. And so I said, you can trash them. People who were saying so are members of the Obidient Movement.

“Of course, it’s clear (they want Tinubu to fail). Everything the government has done, even Peter Obi himself, read his tweets… When the government has done something good, he will never comment about it. But when it is bad news, quickly he will tweet.

“So you can see a deliberate attempt to denigrate the government to make it black all the time, that it is not doing well, the government is a failure. And I said it’s too early to even say so. Tinubu has a four-year mandate that just started and I am very sure that they will be shamed by the time this man finishes his term.”
