Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has called upon affluent Nigerians to finance the drilling of 200,000 boreholes nationwide, aiming to alleviate the clean water scarcity gripping the country. The former governor of Anambra State issued this plea during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

Emphasizing the importance of investment in education and healthcare for the populace, Obi urged well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to these sectors’ development.

In addition to addressing the water crisis, Obi addressed the leadership turmoil within the Labour Party, highlighting Julius Abure, the national chairman, as a focal point in the ongoing conflict. Despite this internal strife, Obi compared the situation within the LP to the larger disruptions observed in major political parties like the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Furthermore, Obi disclosed ongoing efforts to audit the Labour Party’s financial records, acknowledging that this process might extend over several months or even years before reaching completion.

The call for action on water scarcity comes at a critical time when access to clean water remains a significant challenge for many Nigerians, and Obi’s appeal seeks to mobilize resources to address this pressing issue.
