THE Labour Party (LP) has recommended reserving the presidential ticket for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi ahead of the general elections in 2027.

In addition, the party also stated that Abia State Governor Alex Otti has performed admirably in his role as governor and wishes to reserve his ticket for governor.

This was revealed in a statement released yesterday following the party’s National Convention which took place in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Obi was the party’s presential candidate in the 2023 general elections. Having polled 6,101,533 votes, the former governor trailed behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who raked in 6,984,520 to come second, and Bola Tinubu who eventually emerged the winner of the keenly contested poll with 8,794,726 votes.

In the press release, signed by the party’s re-elected National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure, and National Secretary, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, it was stated that the LP had evaluated the performance of Governor Otti and Obi, respectively, and had chosen to hold their respective tickets for governor and president in the general elections of 2027.

In addition, the LP “called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, to take decisive action as soon as possible to save the economy from complete collapse and to restore it to a path of growth and development.”

It gave its members nationwide assurances about a promising future.
