Dele Farotimi, a legal practitioner and Nigerian author, recently clarified his affiliation with Nigerian political parties in response to speculation about his membership status. Farotimi revealed that while he had thrown his support behind Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP, before and after the 2023 general election, he was not officially a member of the party.

In his statement, Farotimi emphasized that his backing of Peter Obi and the Labour Party was based on principle rather than formal party membership. Despite his vocal support for Obi and his alignment with the Labour Party’s agenda, Farotimi stated that he had not taken the step of becoming a registered member of the party.

While addressing any potential misconceptions about his political affiliation, Farotimi reiterated his stance by stating that he remained outside the ranks of the Labour Party. While he affirmed his ongoing support for Obi’s leadership and the principles espoused by the Labour Party, he clarified that this support did not extend to formal party membership.
