I have no plan to quit Labour Party – Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has denied any plan to leave the party due to the current leadership crisis.

He stated this yesterday in Gombe, while fielding questions from newsmen, shortly after he commissioned a borehole donated to a local cattle market at the Pantami area of the metropolis.

Daily Trust reports that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had said Obi is free to leave the LP.

Obi said though he is not happy about the current crisis bedeviling the party, he has no to defect to another political party, but is determined to work with other stakeholders to resolve the crisis amicably.

On whether he was in talks with a former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on a new political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections, Obi said his focus now is to ensure that Nigerians live in a better society.

He said, “I am more interested now in Nigeria’s success. We are always concentrating on the election rather than what Nigerians are going through. My commitment is about Nigerians living in a better society, given a better life and that is my concern.”

He also called on the stakeholders to be strategic on the issue of increased electricity tariff, saying “We should all think it through to see how we can provide remedy, how we can deal with it, especially as it concerns the poor. Everywhere in the world, those living in Band A areas pay more, while those in rural areas are subsidised; that is how it works.”
