The visit of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday during which he knelt down to receive handshake from the President has continued to generate controversy in different quarters.

This is coming on the heels of the fact that the same Governor Bago had at Leadership Newspaper Awards on Tuesday referred to the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi in the 2023 elections as his boss.

Bago, who called Obi as ‘’my boss’’ while commenting on the food donation to Nigeria by war ravaged country, Ukraine, said that it was another example of the failure of government to lead thus, backed Obi that it was a national disgrace to import food from Ukraine.

Governor Bago had said; “My boss, (Obi), you are very right on what you have said. We have no reason to be poor. People may not like you, but they must hear you. What you said is the gospel truth.

“It is time we tell ourselves the basic truth. We need to feed ourselves. It is a shame for people (sic) like Ukraine in war to be giving us food. Nigeria needs to be productive.

“You cannot be out of poverty unless you start to produce. I’m not an advocate of handouts and palliative. I don’t believe in it,” he said.

It was however gathered that Governor Bago had to be summoned in less than 24 hours to the presidential Villa to face President Tinubu and explain why as a member of the ruling Party, he went verbosed to castigate the government his party leads.

And late on Thursday, one of the leading Obidients, with the X handle formerly Twitter, Nefertiti@firstladyship posted the picture of Governor Bago kneeling before President Tinubu which sent tongues wagging why an Executive Governor with immunity should go so low before the President.

Nefertiti@firstladyship insinuated that Bago had to kneel down to beg President Tinubu owing to his calling the Labour Party Presidential candidate his boss.

It was also gathered that the presidency was irked over Bago making a veiled reference to the administration of President Tinubu as a failed government and eulogised Obi publicly.

However, some of the Obidient members saw it differently saying that there was nothing wrong with Bago being a younger person to kneel before an elder in the person of President Tinubu.
