The Federal Housing Authority says it would soon begin the construction of affordable houses for vulnerable and low-income earners in Kaduna State and other parts of the country as part of efforts to provide shelter for the low and middle class.

Speaking in Kaduna while visiting Governor Uba Sani on Thursday, the Managing Director of the authority, Oyetunde Ojo, said the pilot project which will commence in Kaduna, will boost access to decent, quality, and affordable housing for all Nigerians.

He explained that the authority chose Kaduna for the pilot project due to its strategic nature and population.

“For us in the federal housing authority, we are here in Kaduna knowing the pivotal role of the state, the geopolitical zone is important. If you look at the six geopolitical zones in the northwest, Kaduna is extremely key,” he said.

“Kaduna is the gateway to the North-West and also to other states in the country. We are highly delighted that His Excellency has removed all the bottlenecks and the bureaucracy in the process. If not for His Excellency, how then do you come to a state and get land under 24- hours?

“This is the first state that we have been to, and we have land under 24- hours. That’s massive and that’s encouraging and that shows the capacity of his excellency and his readiness in giving his people affordable houses.”

On his part, Governor Sani commended the management of the Federal Housing Authority for choosing Kaduna State for the pilot mass housing scheme. He therefore approved land to be allocated to the Federal Government for the housing project.
