Doyin Okupe, the previous director general of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, has left the Labour Party, LP.
Okupe based his resignation on disagreements in ideology that surfaced following the elections of 2023.
He clarified that his lifetime adherence to liberal democratic and right-wing ideals conflicted with the left-of-center philosophy of LP, making membership impossible.
“I submit herewith my letter of resignation from the Labour Party with effect from today,” stated Okupe in a letter made accessible to press on Monday. As you remember, our flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi, myself, and a few others abruptly left the PDP in order to search for a Special Purpose Vehicle to run in the 2023 presidential election.
We were incredibly appreciative of the Labour Party, your excellent self, and other executives for giving us this incredible platform without any hassle at all.
“We did run for office on the Labour Party platform, but we were unsuccessful. Because of this, I find it very difficult to stay in the Labour Party, which has its ideological roots to the left of the center.
“My entire life, I have identified as a liberal democrat and a rightist. I consequently feel compelled to look for a way out of this ideological struggle in order to carry on with my political actions in a liberalism, sincerity, and freedom.
“As the Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, I would like to express my gratitude to you and the other party leaders for your kindness and consideration.”
