Plans are underway for the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to engage with stakeholders in Canada to brainstorm solutions for the escalating insecurities and economic difficulties faced in Nigeria.

A meeting scheduled for May 3, 2024, at Hilton Garden Inn, is being organized by the Coalition of Nigerian Canadian Interest Groups, according to a statement released on Monday.

The CONCIG highlighted that the collaboration between Canadian and Nigerian governments is crucial in promoting good governance for a better world presently and in the future.

The statement, signed by the CONCIG Coalition Lead, Vwede  Obahor, mentioned, “As Nigerians residing in Canada, we aim to contribute to nation-building efforts in both Canada and our home country by bringing selected Nigerian business and political figures to engage with political stakeholders in Canada. We believe this will establish high-level engagements and relationships needed by Canada and Nigeria, fostering socio-economic benefits between the two countries.”

Fabian Nwaoha, the Coordinator of the coalition, expressed, “Our decision to hold this town hall meeting with Peter Obi as the keynote speaker stems from his consistent advocacy for reducing governance costs, a principle resonating with Canadian governance practices. The coalition – CONCIG – plans to extend invitations to other influential policymakers in Nigeria to connect with Nigerians in the Diaspora and liaise with Canadian government officials to form a mutually beneficial alliance for Nigeria and Canada.”
