Alia Promises Benue Teachers Adequate Incentives For Optimal Performance

May 5, (THEWILL) – Benue state governor, Revd Fr Hyacinth Alia, has promised to continue to provide adequate and timely motivation to teachers through emoluments, workshops and training, to equip them with skills and modern strategies, which will help them become more efficient and optimal in performance.

The governor, while inaugurating projects executed by the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, to mark her 100 days in office, also promised to renovate and equip selected public schools in Benue State to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils.

He warned against laxity and neglect on the side of teachers, assuring the people of the willingness of his administration to reinvigorate school supervision to ensure effective service delivery.

Governor Alia commended the Chairman of SUBEB, Dr Grace Adagba and her team for the many achievements they have recorded in less than one year in office, promising to continue to support them to attract more development to the education sector in Benue State.

Governor Alia also approved the construction of a storey building at the SUBEB Headquarters in Makurdi, to provide a solution to the challenge of office accommodation even as he ordered that a 33KV transformer be installed at the board with immediate effect.

In her welcome address, Grace Adagba thanked Governor Alia for their support, without which it would have been difficult to achieve that much.

Dr Adagba highlighted the laudable achievement of Governor Alia in the area of education, emphasising his passion for the welfare of teachers as evident in the regular and timely Payment of salaries.

She said through the assistant of the Governor, they have been able to automate the staff payroll system, remodel the SUBEB gate, install solar lights, dig a motorised borehole, renovate seven blocks, create new Departments, provide internet services within the SUBEB premises and furnished the chairman’s office, amongst other things.

She pledged continued support to Governor Alia’s administration to actualise his vision as captured in his policy document, “Strategic Development Plan for a New Benue”.

Other speakers at the event included the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr Fredrick Ikyaan, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Agbo Ochekpe, and the Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Makurdi, Professor Tor Iorapuu, represented by the Deputy Vice-chancellor, Academics, Professor Simon Ubwa, all commended governor Alia administration for uplifting education sector within record time.

The representative of the State Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission, Brenda Atii, the state Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Levi Akuma and the pupil of Holy Ghost Primary School, Makurdi, Mary Otor, also acknowledged the governor for his interest to change the Benue narrative for the good of the state.

The highlight of the event was the official commissioning of the new projects by Governor Alia to the admiration of the attendants.
