The Cat Dance – Tiv Culture Benue State Nigeria

The “Cat Dance” is done mainly by the great TIV people who hail from the middle belt part of Nigeria, Africa. The TIV people live on both sides of the river Niger and Benue in modern day Nigeria. They are very skilled hunters and often express the stories of their encounters during hunting escapades in dance form. In this instance, the movement and mannerism of the leopard and other animals from the cat family are captured in this dance routine. What is most fascinating is that in this dance, the hunter becomes an embodiment of the great cats that he often encounters and he is transformed and becomes a cat in the process. Very intriguing. Quick question. Do you guys think there is similarity between TIV culture and the ZULU culture of South Africa?
