Niger customs intercept items worth 194.8mn in Dec. 2023

The Niger/Kogi Customs Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has intercepted items worth 194.8 million naira in Duty Paid Value for December 2023.

The Customs Area Comptroller, Busayo Kadejo who said this while reading the commands achievement for the period under review also added that officers and men have been charged to redouble efforts to not only mann the only border Niger state has but, to activate their intelligence to cripple smugglers and their activities.

With the beginning of the year 2024, the Comptroller of Niger/Kogi area command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Busayo Kadejo says it is taking the last stock of its achievement for December 2023 by intercepting more than 10 items worth 194.8 million naira in Duty Paid Value.

This is because Niger state has no Seaport, Airport, Bonded Terminal, or Excisable Factory, with the only Border domiciled in the Command at Babanna which remained closed.

In the area of anti-smuggling during the period under review (December 2023), the Command recorded seizures and detentions including 8 units of exotic cars and other vehicles of different make, displayed within the office premises.

Other seizures recorded at various places within our Area of Control during the period under review include 35 Jerry-Cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) 25 Liters each, already auctioned due to its inflammatory nature, after permission for disposal was sought and approval granted by the CGC, with the accrued proceeds paid into the federation account.

Comptroller Kadejo further disclosed that within the period under review, the command due to how its men carry out their duties professionally and intelligently, no officer or men lost his life.

He also disclosed that the Command also recovered 12.6 million from Demand Notices and 206.3 million made from Duty Paid Value on 65 seizures as well as 77.2 million from Demand Notices.

While warning smugglers to turn a new leaf and embrace legitimate means of doing business, the Niger State Customs boss revealed that the command will keep busting their new tricks of smuggling.

Comptroller Kadejo therefore assured the people of Niger that, in the year 2024, it is not going to be business as usual for smugglers and their accomplices.
