Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, located in Northeast Nigeria, has unveiled the budget proposal for the year 2024. The governor emphasised key priorities in the budget, including the commencement of cross-border trade on the shores of Lake Chad, sustained security efforts, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of communities devastated by insurgency.

Infrastructural development also emerged as a focal point in the proposed budget. The 2024 budget estimate stands at approximately ₦340.6 billion, reflecting the state’s commitment to addressing various aspects of post-insurgency recovery.

Residents have expressed mixed reactions to the budget, with hopes for enhanced social services and increased economic opportunities as the government focuses on rebuilding and development. The governor’s outlined priorities align with the state’s recovery plan, aiming to boost economic activities, improve security, and rebuild communities affected by the challenges of insurgency.
