Three additional commissioners have resigned from Governor Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Joseph Fubara’s cabinet. The recent wave of resignations includes key figures like the Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke; the Commissioner for Works, George-Kelly Alabo; and the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Inime Aguma.

These departures follow the earlier resignation of the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, raising concerns about governance and stability in the region Notably, Adangor and Woke are reported to be strong allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The resignations, delivered through separate letters to Governor Fubara, have added to the list of officials distancing themselves from the administration.

The Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation cited “personal” reasons for her departure. As the political landscape remains highly charged, former Governor Chief Rufus Ada George has urged politicians to embrace peace and refrain from political arguments in the interest of the state.

He emphasised that structures are not permanent and can change with shifts in government. George called for unity among past governors to intervene in the current political crisis rocking the state, cautioning against premature moves for impeachment and emphasising the need for a peaceful resolution.
