Gembu Food tour takes us on a culinary journey into the world of the Rare Tribal of the Mambilla Plateau People in Taraba State Nigeria. The Mambilla Plateau People live in the present-day Taraba State of Nigeria but this comes after their long history of migration from Central Africa around 3000 BC, eventually settling in a place called Kimi in Southern Cameroon.

This long history of migration has had an influence on the culture and lifestyle of the Mambilla people of Taraba State Nigeria including their food. Documented in this video are Rare Tribal Nigerian Food which includes:

1. Corn Food and Kumbi. Corn food is flour derived from grinded corn and eventually made into a swallow like any kind. And Kumbi is a kind of vegetable that’s peculiar to the Mambilla Plateau region of Taraba State Nigeria.

2. Red Beans. A type of Beabs peculiar to the Mambilla Plateau region of Taraba State Nigeria and also to neighboring Cameroon. This Beans is very hard in nature and requires to be cooked for long hours on high heat.

3. Tukuni. A porridge mix of Red Beans and Irish Potatoes that’s has its origin from the Panso Tribe of Cameroon. The Beans is and Potatoes are parboiled separately, pounded, and eventually mixed together to cook.

Nigeria is one of the world’s most ethnically diverse countries. Food can be seen as a connection between beliefs, ethnicity, and cultural heritage. Here in the Mambilla Plateau region of Taraba State Nigeria where traditions transcend generations, food is not just part of the culture. Food is a culture.
