The leaders of the Labour Party including the party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and National Chairman, Julius Abure, will today (Thursday) flag-off the party’s campaign for the Bye Elections of Surulere Federal Constituency 1, Lagos State holding on Saturday, 3rd February.

The former presidential candidate of LP, according to a statement on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, will also formally inaugurate the 30 member Campaign Council led by the Abia state governor, Alex Otti.

Engr Adeola Adebanjo aka Skele who is the Labour Party’s candidate for the Bye elections is expected to lead thousands of party members and Obidient family in the state to win the seat recently vacated by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and the current Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila

The campaign committee which will be inaugurated by Peter Obi also has as members Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim , LP’s National Secretary, Arch Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former LP governorship candidate in the state, members of the national assembly and other top party leaders. Veteran Olawale Okunniyi will serve as the Secretary of the campaign committee. NNL.

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, has congratulated award-winning international writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, describing her as a courageous voice of truth.

Obi who wrote on his Facebook page, said: “My Very Dear Sister and Internationally Renowned Author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, I rejoice with and congratulate you today on your birthday anniversary.

“I celebrate the many achievements you have made on the global stage, and especially, for following the path of sincerity and integrity in your life’s journey. Your courageous voice of truth has continued to resonate in our nation and beyond.

“I encourage you to remain steadfast in doing the right thing in all circumstances. As you continue to contribute to the growth, development, peace and progress of our nation through the power of words and ideas, I pray God to grant you many more healthy, fruitful and happy years.

“Strong and resolute voices of truth like yours are what we need to inspire a New Nigeria”.

However, Chimamanda was born in 1977 in Nsukka, Enugu North, Enugu state, South East Nigeria. The world-renowned writer celebrated her 46th birthday on Friday. Adichie is a prolific writer, known for her works such as Half of a Yellow Sun, Purple Hibiscus, Americanah, and Ijeawele.

Adichie was born to Igbo parents in Enugu state, Nigeria. She grew up in Nsukka, where she attended primary and secondary school. She later went on to study medicine and pharmacy at the University of Nigeria, but soon realized her passion for writing and switched to communication and political science.

Adichie’s literary career began with her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, which was published in 2003. The book won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book (Africa) and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction.

Her second novel, Half of a Yellow Sun, was published in 2006 and is set during the Nigerian Civil War. The book won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2007 and was adapted into a movie in 2013.

Adichie’s other notable works include ‘The Thing Around Your Neck’, a collection of short stories, and Americanah, a novel that explores themes of race, identity, and immigration.

In addition to her literary work, Adichie is also a renowned speaker and has given several TED Talks, including “The Danger of a Single Story” and “We Should All Be Feminists.”

Adichie’s work has received numerous accolades and awards, including the MacArthur Fellowship, also known as the “Genius Grant,” in 2008.
