Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, said the deaths of two notable Nigerians on Wednesday have demonstrated the importance of political officeholders and others serving the people remaining devoted to good causes.

According to Platinum Times, Akeredolu died on Wednesday at the age of 67.

In addition, Platinum Times previously claimed that Ghali Na’Abba, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, had died. The 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives, born on September 27, 1958, died on Wednesday morning in Abuja.

According to family members, the late Na’Abba struggled for a long time with an illness before passing away.

However, in a series of posts on his X account in response to their deaths, Obi, a former Anambra State governor, said their deaths demonstrated the futility of life.

According to him, I was fortunate to be close to Akeredolu as the then-President of the Nigerian Bar Association; he invited me to speak at an NBA event, and we have been close ever since, often discussing Nigerian matters.

He went on to say that while Na’Abba was Speaker, he met with him on multiple occasions and always discussed Nigeria’s challenges.

“For Akerodolu, may God Almighty who called him home grant him eternal rest in His kingdom, and grant his immediate family and the good people of Ondo State, the fortitude to bear his loss.

“For Ghali Na’Abba, may God Almighty forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest and grant his family and the good people of Kano State, the fortitude to bear his loss.

“Their deaths show us, who are still serving, the nothingness of life and why we should remain firm in good works. May God grant all of us, who mourn them, and the entire nation, the fortitude to bear their losses,” Obi said.
