“We received N800 million from Peter Obi”

Peter Obi, the Labour Party standard-bearer for the 2023 presidential election, has revealed through the Obi/Baba-Ahmed Presidential Campaign Organisation that they spent over N744,500,000.00 on litigation in courts related to the poll. 

Additionally, the organisation received donations totaling N595,976,994.00 from well-meaning Nigerians.

Aisha Yesufu, the Chairman of the Fundraising Team of the Campaign Organisation, presented a fundraising report, emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency. 

Yesufu thanked everyone who contributed to the campaign and provided details on how the funds were utilized.

The breakdown of expenses and activities includes:

  • Donations: N595,976,994.00 from citizens and N800,000,000 from Peter Obi.
  • Strategic Blueprint: Designed to channel support for Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed through various support groups, reaching over 11 million people.
  • Campaign Materials: Procured and distributed materials worth N258,374,330 across 36 states and Abuja.
  • Media and Radio Broadcasting: Cost of N16,432,867.
  • Election Promotion Expenses: N10,808,948.
  • Polling Unit Agents: Expenditure of N324,381,700.
  • Bank Charges: N1,750,544.
  • Administrative Charges: N477,000.
  • Legal Expenses: Utilized N744,500,000 for covering legal matters.
  • Campaign and Election Activities: Spent over N28,500,000.

Yesufu highlighted the strategic use of funds, focusing on community outreach, social media, and radio stations due to financial constraints. 

She said the report aims to demonstrate transparency and how the campaign funds were allocated for various activities and expenses.
