Angry Ghanian youths have taken to the street to protests the abrupt cancellation of a Pan-African convention in the country by its government
The convention 2024, which was a forum bringing together prominent African leaders and thinkers was slated for Sunday, January 7th.
According to the organizers, they had received approval for the event from authorities in November 2023. However, in a shocking last minute move, the New African Foundation which was organizing the event said they received an order from the government to call off the convention few hours to the event.
Hundreds of attendees had already filled the independent Square with high profile speakers like Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Professor Patrice Lumumba, Julius Malema and Dr Arikana Chihombori- Quao when it was called off.
In a video obtained by this medium, hundreds of Ghanian youths were seen venting their frustration over the cancellation of the convention.
The secretary general of the student union who spoke with newsmen during the protest said, the convention would have been an opportunity to ignite the voices of Africans.

Meanwhile, the organiser of the convention, New Africa Foundation in a statement yesterday, expressed regret at the cancellation and described it as a deviation to “our dignitaries and special guest.”
“This came as a shock to us. We had received all approvals from the government months ago but we’re given no explanation for this last minute decision. It has caused great disappointment and confusion”, the statement added
