Video: Ebonyi LG Election: Why I’m in the race for Onicha LG Chairman – John Elom

Honorable John Elom, an aspirant in the upcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, has voiced his concerns over what he perceives as the marginalization of the Ukawu Community in government appointments. Speaking with our correspondent, Mr. Ibeabuchi Nwankwo, Hon. Elom highlighted the disparity in political representation within the Onicha Local Government Area (LGA).

According to Hon. Elom, who previously served as the Coordinator of Ukaba Development Centre, Ukawu has received the least number of appointments compared to other blocks within the LGA, particularly under the current administration. He pointed out that while other communities enjoy “juicy appointments,” Ukawu has been left wanting.

The business magnate’s decision to run for the position of Executive Chairman of Onicha LGA is fueled by a desire to address this imbalance and ensure fair representation for the Ukawu clan. Hon. Elom urges the government, led by Governor Ogbonna Francis Nwifuru, to adopt a principle of equity when selecting the next Executive Chairman.

When questioned about his stance on the incumbent chairman, Hon. Elom expressed his support for the council boss’s programs but emphasized his commitment to “liberate” the Ukawu clan from its current state of neglect.

The upcoming local government elections present an opportunity for the voices of the Ukawu Community to be heard, and for leaders like Hon. Elom to advocate for equitable distribution of political appointments. The community awaits the government’s response to these calls for inclusivity and fairness in representation.
