Expressing his dissatisfaction, the Labour party’s Presidential candidate in the February 25th election, Peter Obi, criticized the recent call made by the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, to President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Earlier reports from LIB revealed that Blinken had a conversation with Tinubu on Tuesday, May 16, where he assured continuous support to the Nigerian government.

In a series of tweets today, Obi emphasized that the fundamental tenet of democracy is the rule of law. He stated that since Nigeria’s democracy is built on these principles, it is important for the U.S.-Nigeria relationship to be guided by the core values of democracy, which the American people hold dear.

Obi also pointed out that the outcome of the presidential election is currently being contested in court. He implied that Nigerians expect the United States to await the full resolution of the ongoing judicial processes before tacitly conferring legitimacy on the election outcome.
