The criticism has been directed at Aisha Yesufu by former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, over the handling of Peter Obi’s campaign fund during the recent general elections. Bashir Ahmad expressed surprise at Aisha’s delay in releasing the financial statement for the campaign and highlighted the call for transparency in this matter. The Labour Party (LP) had established a website in October 2023, urging Nigerians to contribute to the campaign fund, with Obi also seeking help in December 2022 by releasing bank account details on Twitter. Despite assurances from Aisha in September 2023 to disclose the financial statement after the conclusion of Obi’s petition at the Supreme Court, the statement is still awaited by the public. Bashir Ahmad, in his criticism on social media, emphasized the importance of upholding promises and the loss of credibility due to the delay in releasing the financial statement.
