In a move to promote transparency and accountability, the fundraising team of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has commenced the public disclosure of the financial intricacies of their 2023 campaign. Spearheaded by Aisha Yesufu, the campaign, despite financial constraints, managed to generate a total income of N1,395,976,994, with expenses almost matching at N1,395,213,389. This financial report comes in the wake of Peter Obi’s vow to ensure a transparent account of the donations received during the election period, amidst allegations of misappropriation within the party.

At the heart of the campaign’s financial narrative is the balance between the funds received and the expenses incurred. The organisation disclosed a significant portion of their expenses, N744,500,000, was allocated to litigation following Peter Obi’s contestation of the 2023 presidential election results.

Despite receiving donations totalling N596m, the campaign showcased a meticulous allocation of resources across various essential fronts, including polling unit agents, campaign materials, media, and legal fees. The detailed breakdown aims to quell any concerns regarding financial mismanagement within the campaign.

Peter Obi, representing the Labour Party, emphasized the campaign’s commitment to financial transparency. This initiative is not only about setting a new standard in political campaign financing but also about fostering trust among the electorate and supporters.
