Tinubu Urges Peter Obi: Falsehood and Disinformation Won’t Determine Election Outcomes

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, has called on Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to rein in his supporters, cautioning that elections cannot be won through falsehood and disinformation.

In a statement released by his campaign organization on Wednesday, August 10, Tinubu urged Obi to steer his supporters towards issues that will contribute to the country’s growth, progress, and stability.

The Director of Media and Communications at the Tinubu Campaign Organisation, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that Obi should discourage his supporters from spreading lies and denigrating other candidates, particularly Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Onanuga stated, “TCO (Tinubu Campaign Organisation) emphasizes the importance of focusing on issues of good governance that will uplift millions of Nigerians out of poverty in the 2023 presidential campaign, rather than being dominated by the ravings of those who do not wish the country well.”

Regarding the fake report alleging that Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, wrote a letter to Tinubu requesting his support for Obi and expressing concern for Tinubu’s health, Onanuga stated, “We have determined that the fake news about Akufo-Addo’s letter originated from a rogue platform, worlsnews.space, which is a Biafra news platform. The fake news was disseminated on Facebook by the Peter Obi Support Group, indicating a connection between Biafra campaigners and Peter Obi supporters.”

Onanuga also highlighted the proliferation of fake stories about Bola Tinubu on the same website, including fabricated allegations attributed to former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. He underscored the need for Peter Obi to distance himself from supporters who utilize fake news and disinformation to deceive Nigerians.
