The presidential campaign of Peter Obi has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s decision to offer board slots to state governors, including those from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party.

At the end of the NGF meeting on Wednesday, July 12, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, revealed that President Tinubu requested the governors to nominate qualified individuals to the dissolved boards and parastatals of Federal Government agencies.

Abdulrazaq also stated that the members of the governors forum praised President Tinubu for providing an opportunity for the governors to nominate board members from different political parties.

Following the dissolution of the governing boards of over 153 agencies, parastatals, institutions, and government-owned companies by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, more than 2,000 positions have become available.

In response, the Chief Spokesman for Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, asserted that the board slots offered to governors “will not alter the fact that Tinubu’s presidency is an illegitimate government.”

He characterized the board slots as a “tactic” to entice opposition governments into the ruling APC.

“The APC is employing every method possible to legitimize this government, which we have strongly resisted. We will only take action when the court makes its decision and pronouncement.

“Sending letters to state governors is part of the process of legitimizing their governance, which we are resisting. Currently, LP has only one governor. It is believed that the governor may comply with their demands. However, the truth is that the APC can nominate party members in Abia State without involving the governor. Their aim is to indirectly assimilate him into their party. That is the truth,” he added.

Tai Obasi, Obi’s media aide, also remarked, “It is evidently a ploy. We are aware of the man (Tinubu) and the legal challenges he faces. It is clear what he is attempting to do, even though it appears positive. However, the opposition is not naive. As far as we are concerned, we still perceive his government as interim.”
