In a recent interview with The Sun, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, expressed his views on the ongoing probe of suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Peter Obi emphasized that the ordeal of Ibrahim Magu is having a more significant impact on the country than on Magu himself. He urged the federal government to prioritize the revitalization of the economy.

“Today’s news should focus on serious issues and a reliable roadmap for the country’s progress. Instead, headlines are filled with sensational stories of conflicts and scandals. Fighting corruption should not be the primary focus of a government. It is a waste of time to make it an economic policy. Nigeria is the one suffering the most from what Magu is going through, not him.”

He also advised the Nigerian government to explore innovative methods for revenue generation and highlighted that the country’s debt servicing is not yielding productive results.

“In the last budget, the allocation for servicing debt is over N2.9 trillion, whereas the combined budget for education and health is significantly lower. The actual amount spent on debt servicing will exceed the provision due to the increasing borrowing. This is because the debt being serviced does not contribute to the country’s development.”
