The Labour Party (LP) has berated the Supreme Court for failing to release the certified true copy of the judgment in its appeal and that of its candidate, Peter Obi, more than 30 days after.
The party also faulted the apex court’s decision to apply its judgement on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the appeal of Obi.
The National Secretary of the party, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, on Tuesday in a statement said the Supreme Court issued a hearing notice dated October 25, notifying the LP and Obi that judgment would be delivered in their appeal on October 26 only for the Presiding Justice, John Inyang Okoro, to verbally state that the decision in the LP appeal would abide by the judgment delivered in respect of the PDP appeal.
The LP national scribe said the party out of an abundance of caution, by letter dated October 26, applied to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court for the certified true copy of the judgment in the LP appeal.
“There was a reminder through a letter on 8th November 2023. However, to date, the requests have been ignored,” Ibrahim said.
He added that the LP is aware that by the provision of Section 294(1) of the Constitution of Nigeria, every court established under the constitution has a duty to furnish all parties to the cause or matter determined with duly authenticated copies of the decision within seven days of the delivery thereof, lamenting that the Supreme Court has failed to do this in the present appeal.
