The Supreme Court has reserved the appeals filed by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidates of Labour Party and People’s Democratic Party respectively, for judgement.

After the appellants adopted their respective briefs of arguments against the election of President Bola Tinubu on Monday, a seven-member panel of the court reserved the appeals for judgement on a date to be communicated to the parties involved.

In a petition, Abubakar and the PDP had contested the results of the presidential election held on February 25. But in its ruling on September 6, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal determined that Abubakar had not provided sufficient evidence to support each of the allegations in his appeal.

Dissatisfied with this decision, Abubakar took his appeal to the Supreme Court. He alleged that the tribunal’s findings were laden with “grave errors and gross misrepresentation”.

He also prayed the apex court to grant him the opportunity to file new evidence against Tinubu. He aims to prove with new evidence that Tinubu’s academic records were forged and full of discrepancies.
