A former Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati has condemning the attacks by the Presidencies and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections.

Abati, an anchor on Arise TV’s programme ‘The Morning Show’ said the statements made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy and Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC castigating Obi for making remarks on the judgment of the Supreme Court and refusing to congratulate President Bola Tinubu is unnecessary.

According to Abati “I don’t think the response by Mr. Bayo Onanuga was necessary calling Mr. Peter Obi a copycat and leader of a faction of Labour Party. That wasn’t necessary. Felix Morka, the APC spokesperson also responded”.

“Now, volubility may be an asset in teamship because when you are running a teamship regime, everybody wants to be heard but volubility is not necessarily an asset in spokesmanship. There are certain things you can’t react to”.

“The Supreme Court has ruled. After the Supreme Court, you can only go to God. Now, you cannot say people take part in an election, a ruling has been given by the apex court and you do not allow them to put their thoughts and opinions on the table”.

“Whatever Mr. Peter Obi has said, it was perfectly within his right to make those statements. Not that it will change anything but he has made his feelings known”.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga also said he expected Mr. Peter Obi to congratulate President Tinubu. Well, Waziri Atiku Abubakar has not congratulated him”.

“Mr. Peter Obi has also refused to congratulate him. It is entirely within his prerogative. It is his own choice. So, abusing him for not congratulating, no! That is taking the matter too far”.
