A section of the Supreme Court complex in Abuja on Monday, September 25, 2023 was gutted by fire.

This was as it was gathered that the offices of three Justices of the Apex Court were badly affected by the early morning fire incident.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing the report as efforts were still be made to put the fire under control.

Confirming the fire incident on Monday morning, Director of Press and Information at the nation’s apex Court, Festus Akande attributed it to an electrical fault.

According to him, contrary to social media reports, only one chamber, the office of a judge, was razed in the incident.

He said the fire was readily contained with fire extinguishers by some workers, who were early arrival at the complex additional help came from the Federal Fire Service, even as some of the staff scampered to safety.

However, Akande assured that there was nothing to worry about as the incident would not affect the work of the apex Court, especially as it prepares to hear the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi against the September 6 judgment delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) affirming President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory during the February 25 poll.

This is the latest in many fire incidents recorded in some government offices located within Abuja metropolis, the nation’s capital city.

Just some months back, precisely in May 2023, parts of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, located along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was gutted by fire.
