Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire – Stanley Nwabali, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, has been reportedly threatened by South Africans not to return to his club in the country after the Bafana Bafana lost to Nigeria in penalty shootouts in their semi-final clash at the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations.

This was disclosed by Idah Peterside, a former Super Eagles international, in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, February 8.

Nigeria vs South Africa: Nwabali becomes man-of-the-match

Nwabali was the man of the match in the Super Eagles‘ encounter with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their semi-final clash on Wednesday. The Nigerian goalkeeper saved two penalties in a 4-2 penalty shootout victory for the Nigerian side.

The Super Eagles’ victory has brought Nigeria to the final of the 2023 AFCON, where they will face their West African neighbour and host country, Cote d’Ivoire.

Several pundits have tipped Nigeria to win the 2023 AFCON, including the Supercomputer’s Opta analyst.

Supercomputer rating of Super Eagles, others

The Supercomputer tipped Nigeria a 41.9% chance of winning the AFCON for the fourth time in Cote d’Ivoire host Cote d’Ivoire, followed by Nigeria among the favourable teams in the semi-fire. It is rated 21.1%.

In its prediction, the Opta Analyst of the Supercomputer gave DR Congo 20.3% ahead of its clash with the host country.

At the same time, South Africa has the lowest rating among the four teams playing in the semi-final on Wednesday, February 7. The Bafana Bafana was given 16.6%.
