Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has emphasized the need for unity among leaders to address the security crisis in the Southeast region.

Speaking at the Southeast Summit on Economy and Security in Owerri, the former Governor of Anambra State acknowledged that the predominant business activities of the Southeast have been severely affected by criminal activities perpetrated by hoodlums.

Obi, whose message was transmitted at the summit, called on the Southeast leaders to unite and find lasting solutions to the embarrassing insecurity in the region.

“This summit, which focuses on security and its economic impact on the Southeast, is happening at the most opportune time. It is essential that we come together as a people and brainstorm to find a lasting solution to this problem of insecurity in our homeland,” he said.

“Business is the backbone of our people, but no business or economic activity can flourish in an insecure environment. If we unite and trust one another, we can find a way out of this unprecedented issue,” Obi added.

He commended the governors of the Southeast for initiating the summit and urged all participants, whether present or not, to actively contribute their ideas and be part of the collective efforts to end insecurity in the region.

Obi concluded his message by calling on God to guide and grant the necessary wisdom, strength, and courage to take the essential steps towards restoring peace and tranquility in the Southeast and Nigeria as a whole.
