In response to the abduction of 287 schoolchildren in Kaduna, Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has proposed negotiating with the bandits responsible for the incident. Gumi’s offer, directed to President Bola Tinubu, aims to secure the release of the abducted children through dialogue, highlighting the importance of avoiding past mistakes of refusing to engage with bandits. Despite the state government’s reluctance to negotiate, Gumi advocates for dialogue in all cases of banditry, emphasising the need for proactive measures to address insecurity.
