Senate confirms 11 Supreme Court justices | News

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of 11 justices of the Supreme Court appointed by President Bola Tinubu to fill the void in the apex court.

The confirmation comes barely 24 hours after the nomination notice.

The president has sacked the Senate to confirm the nominees, who were recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The new Supreme Court justices are Justice Haruna Tsammani (Northeast), Justice Moore Adumein (South-South), Justice Jummai Sankey (North-central), Justice Chidiebere Uwa (South-east); and Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (South-east)

Others are Justice Obande Ogbuinya (South-East), Justice Stephen Adah (North-Central), Justice Habeeb Abiru (South-West), Justice Jamilu Tukur (Northwest), Justice Abubakar Umar (Northwest) and Justice Mohammed Idris (North-Central).

Recall that Justice Tsammani chaired the Presidential Election Petition Court that affirmed the election of President Bola Tinubu.

The confirmation of the new Supreme Court justices followed the submission of the report of the Senator Tahir Monguno-led Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.

The Upper Chamber considered and adopted the report at Thursday’s plenary.
