Expressing his sorrow at the recent passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba, Peter Obi, who ran as the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the previous general elections, highlighted the fleeting nature of life. He urged those in leadership positions to steadfastly continue their good work.

In a message shared on his X handle, the former Governor of Anambra State prayed for the forgiveness of their sins and for their souls to find eternal peace.

“I have just received the sad news of the death of two prominent political leaders, the governor of Ondo State, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu, and the Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba.

“I was fortunate to have a close relationship with Gov Akeredolu during my time as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA. He invited me to speak at an NBA event, and since then, we maintained our closeness and often engaged in discussions about Nigeria. While Na’Abba served as Speaker, we had several meetings where we deliberated on the issues affecting Nigeria.

“May God Almighty grant eternal rest to Akerodolu, who has been called home, and grant his immediate family and the people of Ondo State the strength to bear his loss.

“For Ghali Na’Abba, may God Almighty forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest, and grant his family and the people of Kano State the fortitude to bear his loss.

“Their passing serves as a reminder to those of us still in service of the transient nature of life and the need for us to persevere in doing good. May God grant us, who mourn them, and the entire nation the strength to endure their absence.”
