The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt is to hear a suit demanding the sack of the 27 members of the House of Assembly who decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress on March 18, 2024

The legislators, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, are loyal to the immediate-past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The lawmakers decamped at the height of the political crisis between Wike and the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The suit filed by the Rivers State Civil Society Organisations, wants them nullified .

Relying on the provisions of Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution, the south said the lawmakers must lose their seats in the Assembly as they have left the party on which they were elected into the legislature.

The suit was fixed for Monday, but with the absence of the presiding Judge, Justice Stephen Dalyop Pam, it was, therefore, adjourned till March 18.
