  1. Watching from London. When will the name of the airport be changed from Mohamadu Buhari to Chuba Okadigbo International Airport? On patronage, handing the airport to federal government isn't a good idea because it will be exposed to federal politics of discrimination of South East. I advise the new governor to embark on massive industrialisation of ebonyi state to increase human development and attract more investors to the state so that all these infrastructures on ground would be put to maximum and profitable use. Finally, this cold quarrel Ndi Ebonyi is carrying against other Igbos and encouraged by your APC Politicians should stop. We are all one.

  2. Is unfortunate this airport is birthed when the economy already bad making it difficult for many to afford. but I trust God good number of Ebonyians are becoming big boys and girls
Thanks to madamsabicook for the update

  3. Ebonyi uncompleted amusement park airport is such a complete waste of resources. No one will use the airport even though it isn’t completed yet due to high poverty in ebonyi state. Ebonyi should have focused first in human capital development and education.

  4. To me, handing over the airport to the federal government is not a good idea. It means further development of the airport will be at the mercy of the federal government. If the state government wishes to do anything to improve the airport, they will no longer be allowed.

I'm not from the South East, but I'm speaking from experience. There's an important and very long road my former state governor wanted to rehabilitate and turn into a dual-carriage highway. That road leads to the abandoned ALSCON company, Ibom Power Plant, a big and important fishing beach/jetty, and the newly established Federal University of Technology. He was hindered by the federal government on the premise that it's a federal government trunk A road. Till today, the road remains the way it has been. The current governor visited President Tinubu in June, soliciting for the federal government to expedite action on the road, and other federal government projects in the state.

Some of us will remember Africa's biggest Aluminium Smelter Company (ALSCON), established by former President Obasanjo. That company has gone moribund. Successive governments have not been able to resuscitate it, just like other federal government projects like the steel industries at Ajaokuta and Aladja.

Umahi, to me, was seeking too much to please President Buhari and the APC. He played into their hands. The airport may not see further developments as expected. Think of the number of years it took the federal government to remember to rehabilitate the federal airports at Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano. Yet, they cannot be compared to a lot of airports on the African continent. I speak as a traveller. Lagos became wiser recently. They just started constructing a state-owned airport at the Ibeju-Lekki corridor.

Umahi did not do well. But my prayer is that the airport will not be abandoned. The word "abandoned" here is subjective.

  5. As for the license for full operation, we all know it is not automatic, especially because of the politics involved. But that does not remove the fact that it's not totally good to have handed over to the federal government.

Akwa Ibom just completed their newest Africa's smart terminal building, according to the former governor. But the terminal is still not functioning because the federal reserve is yet to give the licence. They are still using the old terminal.

Prayers are that all these bottleneck politics will be resolved, and licences will be granted without further delay.

    Congratulations to the Ebonyi people.

  6. It's fantastic to see that development is on going. However, the air-conditioning units should be protected against the weather as they are very expensive to replace if damaged.

  7. When I told them that the previous governor was out of sync in building some of the projects in Ebonyi, people said i should shut up!

David Umahi must have had a Legoland building blocks set as a child!!

Because he looks like a child at play with this "project"!!!

That airport in Ebonyi is pointless!

In another 50 years, there would be no direct flights from anywhere outside Nigeria flying into Ebonyi!

I doubt if there would even be enough internal flights to keep it open!

    This is most disappointing!

All the people "working" there are actually playing because NOBODY is paying them any salaries!!!

Money that could have better spent to build technical schools, nursing schools, clinics and modern markets have been wasted building this white ( sorry multicoloured) elephant!

On top of it all, he called it Muhammadu Buhari international airport!!!

If no be yeye high service, I ask why? Why??

What did Buhari do for Ebonyi? What did he do for Igbo people?

What did he do for Southern Nigeria?

Come to think of it, what did Buhari even do for KATSINA people???

    Umahi Ode Olodo!

    What a wasteful 8 years!!

  8. POLITICAL AIRPORT…smh 🤦‍♀️

Obviously if commercial viability was a primary consideration, one of the POOREST states and the only state in the Southeast designated among “educationally disadvantaged” states would not PRIORITIZE an airport (that’s most likely going to be significantly UNDERUTILIZED) when the Enugu Airport (itself underutilized) is about an hour away by road – which is less time than it would take to get from several parts of Lagos to MMA Lagos.
