During the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has made it clear that he has no intentions of leaving the party.

There have been speculations regarding Obi’s departure from the party due to reported dissatisfaction with the leadership crisis.

Addressing questions from journalists in Gombe State after his donation of a borehole to the ram market in Tike Pantami on Sunday, Obi dismissed concerns about him joining the Social Democratic Party to pursue his goals.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, represented by its spokesperson Benson Upah, stated that the former Anambra State Governor was at liberty to exit the LP, with the congress not obstructing his decision.

Upah remarked, “Mr. Obi has the freedom to choose. Should he decide to depart from the party, it is his prerogative. We won’t criticize him for that. However, if he opts to stay, Peter Obi remains a valuable asset. That’s my stance.”

Responding to this, Obi affirmed, “There is no truth to that. I am a proponent of peace and unity. We are a united people, focusing on peace. I am confident that we can resolve any challenges together.”
