In a recent revelation, socio-political analyst Reno Omokri shared that he had suggested Peter Obi as a running mate to former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, in 2019.

Omokri explained that he had put forward Obi’s name in response to a request from Atiku during that time.

During an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on his podcast, Mic On, the former presidential aide made it clear that he stands firm in his decision not to switch sides to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

While Omokri has shown support for some of Tinubu’s economic recovery strategies, he emphasized, “Peter Obi can attest that it was me who recommended him to Waziri Atiku Abubakar when seeking assistance in choosing a running mate in 2019.

Referencing a conversation with former President Jonathan, Omokri mentioned, “He suggested Peter Obi, but I felt it was necessary to present a selection of candidates rather than just one. We diversified the options while accentuating Obi’s positive attributes.

“After Atiku honored me by selecting Obi, it would be contradictory to back his rival in the upcoming election,” Omokri added firmly.

Looking ahead, he stated, “If Atiku decides to run in 2027 and secures the PDP’s nomination, I am committed to supporting him.”
