It is exactly five years since veteran journalist Olajide Fashikun left this world for his eternal home. He was born on September 14, 1965 in Kaduna, but died on January 27, 2019 at an Abuja hospital after a brief illness.

Although five years had elapsed since his tragic death, his memories still remain ever-green in the hearts of people whose lives he positively touched during his lifetime. One of such people is this writer, who never had the opportunity of meeting Fashikun in person, but had a friendly communication with him on phone. From Abuja to Warri, the warmth of friendliness could be felt by me whenever I heard his lovely voice on phone.

I can say that Olajide Fashikun was a man of integrity and honesty, one who always did what he said. He spoke the truth at all times, regardless of whose horse is gored. He was not a political journalist, but an acidic reporter who was never afraid of opening cans of worms. He was a perfect gentleman, yet a dogged fighter for the truth in defence of a just society.
