The All Progressives Congress (APC) rose from its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting to announce the scheduling of an emergency meeting of all the chairmen of the party in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for Friday.
National Secretary of the party, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru who addressed newsmen after the NWC meeting said the emergency meeting scheduled to take place in Abuja would deliberate on the planned nationwide protest against the rising cost of living in the country.
Bashiru further said there was no need for the protest because the government of President Bola Tinubu has started putting in place measures that will in a short time ease the current challenges facing the country.
He further advised those allegedly trying to make political gain from the protest to remember that the hardship in the land was largely what President Tinubu inherited from the past administration.
“The APC at its 153rd NWC meeting has joined the President to passionately appeal to those who are planning protests to shelve their plans and have confidence and belief in the government to address most of the economic challenges facing the nation.
“The NWC also noted that since coming on board in 2023, the Government met quite a number of challenges, especially economic challenges, and Mr President is gradually implementing programmes and policies that would in the nearest future, bring succour and relief to the citizens.
“The NWC also noted that some of the issues highlighted by the protestants are political, while others are constitutional matters that can only be addressed through the amendment of the constitution, which is on-going at the National Assembly.
“The meeting therefore, urged all those planning the protests to have confidence in Mr President’s unrelentless efforts at repositioning the economy, while assuring Nigerians that the challenges will sooner or later come to pass.
“The NWC further called for an emergency meeting of Chairmen of the APC in all the thirty-six (36) states of the federation for further discussions”.
The party added that what is happening with the economy is not restricted to Nigeria but a global phenomenon that can only be addressed after thorough brain-storming.
